‘Ah…. de Ukelele’
Ik was nooit onder de indruk van dit instrument, totdat we een ukelele voor de verjaardag van onze kleinzoon bestelden.
Het blauw gekleurde sopraantje kwam per post en ik was in no time verliefd. Zo zacht die snaartjes met sprankelende tonen met een heel ander timbre dan waar ik in speelde. In de weken voordat hij geschonken werd was het proberen en akkoorden uitzoeken. Met 1 vinger heb je er zo al een handvol en het eerste vrolijke liedje kondigde zich al aan.
TINFLIN CONCERT UKELELE
Toen was het een acceptabele ukelele zoeken via internet. Het zou een tenor worden want dat ging meer vingerruimte bieden. Een TinFlin Concert. Je wordt vanzelf goed geluimd van het instrument en heel gemakkelijk kruip je erdoor in de huid van andere, en zuidelijkere ritmes.

Tijdens onze jaarlijkse muzikale reis door Zuid Europa trokken we ook door het land van oorsprong van de ukelele: Portugal. Veel mensen denken dat de ukelele uit Hawaii komt…helaas, Portugese immigranten namen een voorloper mee uit hun moederland en bouwden op Hawaii een nieuwe variant met plaatselijke materialen zoals Koa als houtsoort. Op de golven van de Hawaii-sound kwam de ukelele weer onze kant op gereisd, nu opnieuw populair en in vele landen gefabriceerd.
GEWA-MANOA UKELELE
In een goed voorziene muziekzaak in Leiria trof ik een bariton ukelele die mij raakte door z’n diepe toon en feilloze zuiverheid, ook in de hoge regionen.
Deze GEWA-Manoa, uit mahonie gemaakte uklelele komt niet uit Portugal, maar is van een bouwer uit Adorf (Duitsland) en heeft een wat melancholieke klank die me erg aanspreekt. De naam betekent ‘Groots’ en Manoa wil zeggen: een ‘Plek van Geluk’.

LANIKAI UKELELE
Een bijna ter ziele gaande winkel in Porto had een ‘Lanikai’ tenor gemaakt in O’ahu (Hawaii). Lanikai is een Hawaiiaanse samenvoeging voor ‘Hemelse Zee’. Deze ukelele is ook uit mahonie en bespannen met nylon snaren heeft hij precies de toon en zuiverheid die ik zocht. Portugese ukeleles zijn vaak voorzien van dunne stalen snaren en brengen een fel, doordringend geluid voort, wat me meer geschikt lijkt voor orkesten en straatconcerten.

Mijn liedjes maakten campingbaas Dave zo enthousiast dat hij mijn TinFlin ukelele wilde overnemen…
Gitaarreparateur Ad Vermeer heeft beide instrumenten voorzien van ’n K&K element, zodat hun karakteristieke geluid live goed vertegenwoordigd is.
Het mooie was dat mijn liedjes campingbaas Dave van O’Tamanco (Louriçal) zo enthousiast maakte dat hij mijn TinFlin ukelele wilde overnemen. Dus die verblijft weer in het land van oorsprong.

Vir Kashmiri is een dichter die mij raakt in zijn heldere verwoording van zijn gemoed met een speciaal mystiek, dromerig randje. Een rifje akkoorden die ik eerder verzon op een barriton ukelele paste er prachtig bij. Dank aan de vrienden die meehielpen om het op te nemen.

TakandBand speelt in 2027 bij Wijkcentrum Heksenwiel in Breda. Het ingeplande optreden van 04-10-2026 wordt verplaatst.
Zondagmiddag 04 oktober is TakandBand te gast bij Wijkcentrum Heksenwiel, in Breda.
Wanneer:
Door een misverstand bij de organisatie is er een dubbele band geboekt. Het optreden van TakandBand wordt verplaatst naar een nog nader te bepalen datum in 2027.
zondagmiddag 04-10-26; tussen 13:30 en 16:30 (speeltijd nntb).
Erbij zijn? Dat kan kosteloos. Aanmelden is niet nodig.

Over Wijkcentrum Heksenwiel
Wijkcentrum Heksenwiel is een ontmoetingsplek in de wijk. Een plaats waar we iets voor elkaar en de buurt kunnen betekenen. In wijkcentrum Heksenwiel is iedereen gelijk aan elkaar, bezoekers, vrijwilligers en professionals.
Elke maand worden er leuke activiteiten georganiseerd, waaronder muziek.

De song ‘Break The Pain’ ontstond uit een periode met veel pijn.
1 op de 4 mensen heeft dagelijks last van lichamelijk ongemak of leeft zelfs met constante pijn. Daar is niet zomaar een pilletje voor, sterker nog: medicatie kan op termijn averechts en sterk verslavend werken.
Hoe dan wel? Zijn er alternatieven? ‘Break The Pain’ is een kreet om aandacht voor deze vaak menselijke wanhoop. Het online platform www.pijnstad.nl helpt en is een plek vol kennis, herkenning en hoop voor iedereen die te maken heeft met pijn.
